In 1950, the Taiwan Provincial Government passed the “Taiwan Provincial Government Patriot Lottery Issuing Act” and commissioned the Bank of Taiwan to publish those lotteries. The profits from the issuance of the Patriot Lottery were used for nation building and social welfare.
In 1987, the economy was booming, and the financial resources required for nation building could be covered by taxes. The Taiwan Provincial Government stopped issuing the Patriot Lottery to curb gambling.
From April 11, 1950 to December 27, 1987, the issued number of Patriot Lotteries reached 1171, and total sales were over NT$68.9 billion.
